Over 150 years after the death of famed writer Edgar Allan Poe, Jessica Walker comes home to find a strange crate at her door. Her ancestor had been the one to find Poe wandering the streets of Baltimore in delirium and deliver him to the hospital where he would spend his last days. Opening the crate, Jessica finds herself in the grip of a time machine that takes her back to the days when Poe was just a young boy. The machine deposits her in the dressing room of middling actor David Poe, Jr., the biological father of Edgar and his sister. In history, this actor would run out on his family, leaving his wife to die a year later of tuberculosis and his children to live in adopted homes. The choice that Jessica faces could end up altering the course of literature, history and time itself. What will she do? How will she change the future?
