Happily ever after isn’t for me just yet. My suicide attempt at nine years old was unsuccessful and life since then continued to follow suit… Unsuccessfully. I wish I could start my story like a fairy-tale by telling you that when I was a kid I wanted to be a doctor when I grew up. Truth is, I was never taught that I should want to “be” anything when I grew up. So, my dreams at four years old were to be able to eat. My hope at nine years old was to be protected from my rapist. My wish at sixteen was that my boyfriend, MK, was home with me instead of jail. At seventeen, my aspiration finally became a positive one… to go away to college.
I even got accepted to the one of my choice but instead of sitting in Biology listening to a lecture, I’m fighting for my freedom, my sanity and my spirit – what I have left of them.
